New mp3 - La Gloria from Gotan Project's new album Tango 3.0

“Tango 3.0 has refined all the founding elements of what makes the Gotan Project the wondrous thing that it is” – Gilles Peterson

After 2 million sales and 400 concerts worldwide, Gotan Project are set to return with their third studio album, the magnificent “Tango 3.0”.

In 2000 Gotan Project, the trio founded by Philippe Cohen Solal, Eduardo Makaroff and Christoph H. Müller released their debut album “La Revancha Del Tango”, a record that brought the sound of Argentina to the world. Their music is now familiar, from the cool and chic clubs of New York to the beaches of Rio de Janeiro. Second album “Lunático” (2006) saw Gotan Project breathing more live recording and jazz influence into their sound… and also saw them visiting Australia for amazing gigs at Womadelaide, the Sydney Opera House and Melbourne’s Concert Hall.

New album, mp3: Holly Miranda 'The Magician's Private Library' out today!

Holly Miranda's debut album The Magician's Private Library is out TODAY!

Holly Miranda is no ordinary songbird.

Coming from strictly religious roots, Holly left her home town of Detroit when she was 16 and headed to New York where she formed her band, The Jealous Girlfriends. She met Dave Sitek five years ago. Dave was in the process of building his studio, next door to her rehearsal space and she would play him her demos and they talked about recording an album In the interim Dave got tied up with TV On The Radio and producing records by the like so The Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

Even without a record or a label word seeped out about Holly. There was a La Blogotheque session and Vanity Fair shout-outs, support slots with The xx, Friendly Fires and The Antlers, and rave write-ups in Dazed & Confused and the New York Times.

Eventually Dave and Holly made the album they had always planned, sifting through 40 demos Holly had recorded at her apartment, or on the road in the back of the van. The album was recorded during a month’s sessions at Sitek’s studio in Brooklyn, sleeping all day, recorded all night. The album also features guest appearances from TV On The Radio members Kyp Malone and Jaleel Bunton

The first taste of the album 'Forest Green, Oh Forest Green' has been lauded by blogs everywhere.

Here is yet another gorgeous track from the album:

New video, mp3: Introducing... Giggs

The recent elevation of some of London’s premier grime MCs to the top of the charts has created a new challenge for the city’s underground. There’s a need for new voices, new stories, new sounds, a fresh take on the themes of doing what you need to do to get by and survive in some of London’s less glamorous boroughs.

Cue Giggs, the latest signing to the XL roster. Hailing from Peckham, Giggs' signing comes on the back of an amazing couple of years that have seen him become the most exciting name in British rap.

A truly unique voice, Giggs’ combination of slow flow, dark lyrics, a well-documented past and explosive street sales has got everyone excited.

Giggs is now set to release his latest single, Don't Go There from his upcoming album Let Em Ave It which is due for release later this year. 'Ave a listen.

New Mp3: Holly Miranda - Forest Green Oh Forest Green

Holly Miranda is no ordinary songbird.
Coming from strictly religious roots, Holly left her home town of Detroit when she was 16 and headed to New York where she formed her band, The Jealous Girlfriends. It wasn't 'till she decided to go solo and met Dave Sitek (TV On The Radio member and knock-out producer) that the ball really started rolling.
The pair spent three weeks locked in a studio recording what would become her debut album “My rehearsal space was down the hall. Dave was sleeping on site.
We slept all day, recorded all night for about three weeks.
It was a pretty intense experience. If my prior recording sessions were school, this was
like getting a master’s."
But even before landing a recording contract Holly was fast becoming the talk of the town. On top of scoring support slots with the likes of Friendly Fires, The Antlers and The xx, she was getting rave reviews and write ups in Dazed And Confused, Vanity Fair and Kanye West's blog.

You'll have to wait 'till February to get your hands on her album. In the meantime, take a listen to 'Forest Green Oh Forest Green'.

Tour news - Peaches sideshows supports announced

So tickets are slipping along (with Melbourne nearing sold out) as the Peach draws closer for a frenzy of whipped cream... as she unleashes her own headline shows around the BDO on us!

Joining Peaches for these upcoming club shows will be SHUNDA K from the USA - the down n' dirty, ruff n' ready, Lord and lady-loving original voice of Yo! Majesty (and will also perform Billionaire live with Peaches at the club and some of the BDO shows); QUAN THE AMATEUR as in Yeomans ala Regurgitator for his electro-hiphop reassembly line touting new remix ep Gimme Gimme and sneakerhead dolls... and in Melbourne extra imbalance from US Bass & drum rock duo EVIL BEAVER - Evie Evil on bass with her revolving drummers.

Since her debut DJ show tour late 2009 and her previous late 2008 visit to NZ and Australia (for Parklife), Peaches has not stood still for a second in 2009! Early that year she released her 4th studio album I Feel Cream to wide critical acclaim (Rolling Stone said, “Peaches bawdy pop feels like a refreshing breath of filthy air.”), was given mad props from Perez Hilton, toured the US to sold-out houses, touring all over the world and set out to release a video for every track from I Feel Cream. Peaches is not done yet. And in keeping with Peaches plan the most recent video for RELAX featured on her BLOG in the past week or so... and coming shortly MOMMY COMPLEX. Peaches set off on her 2nd US tour in late 2009 to support I Feel Cream... with an all new show!! The dates kicked off in Las Vegas and wound up in Los Angeles for a show at The Wiltern on November 28. Next on the list is Australia and New Zealand as part of the 2010 Big Day Out tour plus...

News, Videos, MP3s: Gil Scott-Heron releases first album in 13 years

After a lengthy hiatus the legendary Gil Scott-Heron returns in the new decade with a new album entitled I'm New Here

Without doubt one of the most important voices in 20th century music, in 1971 Gil Scott-Heron laid out the blueprint for the whole rap genre with his slinky, bad-as-fuck anthem “The Revolution Would Not Be Televised”. He is cited as an influence on countless hip hop vocalists and producers.

If you aren't familiar with the influential poet/musician, now is the time to educate yourself. Here's a good place to start:

Uncompromising and upfront, his politically driven work has influenced countless musicians and inspired a movement of intelligent rappers.

Check out his new track Where Did The Night Go

New Release: Basment Jaxx - Zephyr

In September Basement Jaxx hit with their fifth album, Scars, heavy with cameos from Sam Sparro, Yoko Ono, Santigold, and Kelis. Without losing a step the boys are back with Zephyr.

As Simon and Felix describe it Zephyr is “the other side of Basement Jaxx… its music to listen to at home and just close your eyes to,”
Zephyr is culled from the Scars sessions, with the tempo taken down a notch or two, making it possible to take in all their lush groves without breaking a sweat.

Hear Simon and Felix previewing the album on BBC Radio here.

The 'Jaxx are heading back to Australia this summer as one of the major acts penned for 2010's Good Vibes Festival. They'll be playing tracks from Scars as well as their extensive and crazily impressive back catalog.

Final word on Zephyr goes to Felix and Simon: ‘Before the scars there was the flesh and flesh was one, and the flesh was jazz and the jazz was dope, and the dope was beat and the beat was universal, and the planets collided.”

Zephyr is out now through XL/Remote Control.

With Special Guests Friendly Fires (UK)
Adelaide Show - February 2010

“The greatest punk rock ’n’ roll disco soul band on the planet. Gossip are mind-blowing. Everyone needs to hear this band and dance like there’s no tomorrow.”
NME

Already heading to Aus to appear at the Good Vibrations Festival, genre-bending DIY post-punk trio The Gossip have just announced a headline show in Adelaide.
Joining them will be very special guests Friendly Fires, who follow up an almighty sold out Australian tour that solidified their reputation as one of the best live acts around.

With the release of their highly anticipated album Music For Men earlier this year, the band continues on their upward trajectory with singles ‘Heavy Cross’, ‘Dimestore Diamond’ and ‘Love Long Distance’ all over your radio. Produced by Grammy Award winner Rick Rubin, the record brings a new level of lyrical power and musical sophistication to their ever-evolving, always-electrifying sound and sensibility.

The enormously popular Friendly Fires return off the back of a completely sold out Australian tour. Labelled everything from dance-punk, to the new nu-wave, electro-pop, melodic song, and disco dance, Friendly Fires have been called the leaders of the "intelligent disco revolution".
Thanks to their stellar self titled debut, 2009 has seen the UK trio sell out countless shows and receive a swag of award nominations.

Do not miss out on this incredibly special opportunity to catch two of the most thrilling and must-see live acts in the world, together for one show in Adelaide this February.

New video - Basement Jaxx - My Turn featuring Lightspeed Champion

Some electro-balladry for your Friday afternoon.

My Turn is the next single taken from Basement Jaxx's latest offering, Scars.
Featuring the vocal talents of Lightspeed Champion, My Turn is a glitchy, poppy, lovesick track. The Tomek Ducki directed video depicts Lightspeed Champion getting his heart broken over and over again by ruthless (but nonetheless very cute) animated bears.

Hear the brand spankin' new Vampire Weekend track Horchata

Vampire Weekend are offering you an exclusive free download of Horchata; the first track off Contra - the band's highly anticipated full length follow up to 2008’s gold selling debut.

Contra is bustling with fresh ideas, and yet it sounds immediately familiar; it’s heavily layered but taut and kinetic; it chews ravenously through sound palettes and rhythms, and yet it’s nimble and assured; it’s still breezy, and yet it smolders with a newfound emotional heft. The songs are catchy, fast, twinkling, clattering.

“I think we sound more like Vampire Weekend than we did on the first record,” says drummer Christopher Tomson.

“It’s sadder than the first one, a bit more sentimental,” says singer Ezra Koenig.

Horchata [mp3] Vampire Weekend - Contra (Bonus Track Version)

Vampire Weekend's new album Contra is due out in Australia on 8th January 2010 through XL/ Remote Control.
