Mp3/Stream - Fire! Santa Rosa, Fire! announce debut album
Our second Dot Dash announcement this week! We're very pleased to announce that Fire! Santa Rosa, Fire! will be releasing their debut album through Dot Dash next month.
Fire! Santa Rosa, Fire! are out of Adelaide and their debut album Sea Priest is set for a March release.
The album is the culmination of a year of national touring, headlining their own gigs, supporting the likes of The Rapture's Matt B. Safer, Spank Rock, Midnight Juggernauts, Muscles, Young and Restless, Sarah Blasko, Dappled Cities, and Snowman and playing the Homebake, Laneway, Parklife and Big Day Out festivals. This relentless live schedule has blown the band’s sonic palette wide open - gloriously abandoned vocal interplay, synths splashing colour all over the songs, twin guitars that often don’t even sound like guitars and a rhythm section keeping it all hovering above the dance floor
Fire! Santa Rosa, Fire!’s ability to squeeze a startling number of ideas in to their instantly infectious songs has been a never ending source of amusement at Dot Dash’s shabby offices. Now we are ready to share.

The Mountains are returning to Australia this April!
The New Yorker magazine has proclaimed Mountain Goats main man, John Darnielle, “America’s best non-hip-hop lyricist”, whilst Rolling Stone declared him “one of the best songwriters of the ‘00s”. High praise indeed, but also unquestionably deserved praise.
Over the course of a dozen albums, and countless singles, EPs & tracks on compilations Darnielle’s wry, intimate & cathartic songwriting has cast its spell on a growing legion of devoted fans.
Their latest album, “The Life of the World To Come”, once again sees The Mountain Goats deliver their trademark exposition of skewed characters, vibrant images and perfectly-framed narratives in what Darnielle says are “twelve songs the bible taught me, kind of”.
Even more engaging in the live setting, which sees the band create an intense, reflective and often joyous encounter with their audience, the Mountain Goats return to Australia this April for their fifth tour.
“John’s lyrics are breathtakingly wonderful.” J MAG
“He generally sets the bar pretty high, yet The Life Of The World To Come surpasses those lofty standards. Amen to that.” Xpress
“Darnielle is a truly gifted storyteller and lyricist” Time Off Album Of The Week
Check out John Darnielle's fantastic performance and interview on the Colbert show last year here.

Due to scheduling issues, The Big Pink’s Perth and Melbourne shows have been moved. The Perth performance will now be held on Wednesday 3rd March at Amplifier , with Melbourne taking place on Thursday 4th March at the Hi Fi. Tickets already sold for both cities will be honoured.

Searing and soulful, transcendental and life affirming, The Big Pink have recently emerged as one of the most exciting bands to come out of the UK. Following the release of their excellent debut record A Brief History of Love , Robbie Furze and Milo Cordell embark on their inaugural Australian tour. In March 2010, they are set to appear at Golden Plains Festival in Victoria, along with headline dates around the country. All show details below.
2009 started off with a bang, with the ink just drying on a worldwide deal with 4AD – an apt move as their otherworldly qualities provide a direct sonic connection to some of the label’s most celebrated acts like Cocteau Twins, Dead Can Dance and TV On The Radio.
They headed to the Electric Lady Studios in New York to record and self-produce their epic debut album, A Brief History of Love. The final results are eleven stunning tracks, including the intoxicating singles Velvet, Too Young To Love and Dominos, that chart the trials of the heart, set within a sound-world that combines melody and beautiful noise in equal measure.
Here's a taste of what the band will be bringing to Australia. In this exclusive live performance video, the British electro-rock combo serves up four songs from their acclaimed debut, A Brief History of Love: "Too Young To Love," "Crystal Visions," "Velvet" and "Dominos."
The British electro-rock combo discusses their experiences in Japanese bondage clubs, and the questionable allure of American glory holes.

Tour News: Brightblack Morning Light announced rescheduled tour for April
Mistletone proudly presents Brightblack Morning Light (USA) with special guest Rio en Medio (USA).
For their first Australian tour, Brightblack Morning Light will consist of founder Nathan Shineywater with two accompanists: Danielle Stech-Homsy (keyboards/vocals) and percussionist Cannupa Luger. Danielle will also perform a set of her bewitching folk/electronic lullabies in her solo guise as Rio En Medio.
This tour has been rescheduled after the January dates were postponed. Tickets purchased for the January shows in Sydney & Melbourne will be valid for the April shows; refunds are also available at the point of purchase.
BRIGHTBLACK MORNING LIGHT is a collective based in the mountains of rural New Mexico, led by gentle naturist, Nathan Shineywater. Recording their debut in 2005 for Matador Records, Brightblack Morning Light toured with Os Mutantes, Vashti Bunyan and Joanna Newsom, and more recently with My Bloody Valentine and Hope Sandoval & The Warm Inventions. Their slow-motion, blissed out, shamanistic music is unforgettable and hypnotic: think lush, sensual, woozy soundscapes tinged with soul, blues, gospel and other southern sounds harking back to Shineywater’s Alabama roots. "Definitely freaky, in a hallucinatory chant-down-Babylon sense," writes the San Francisco Chronicle. "The band specializes in analog electronica: meticulous machine music, hazily recreated on old-fashioned instruments," writes the New York Times. "After two songs, they own the Great American Music Hall," raves a RELIX live review.
RIO EN MEDIO (Spanish for river in between) is the pseudonym of singer and baritone ukulelist Danielle Stech-Homsy. Born in the high desert of New Mexico, Danielle began to record and perform her own compositions. Working independently and in secret, she created a collection of collage-like songs incorporating found sounds and electronic programming, lifting texts from disparate sources, and evoking traditional/folk song structure, themes and melodies. As chance would have it, a friend passed on the unique, hand-made record to Devendra Banhart who soon requested to release it on his label (Gnomonsong). Since her debut release in early 2007, Danielle has performed and worked with artists such as Grizzly Bear, CocoRosie, Patrick Wolf and Vashti Bunyan. Her delicate, fragmented songs feature a sparse and haunting trio of baritone ukulele, subtly harmonized vocals and electronic or sampled soundscapes, evoking the spun poetry of ancient folk lullabies.
BRIGHTBLACK MORNING LIGHT / RIO EN MEDIO TOUR DATES:
SYDNEY: Wednesday, April 7 at Oxford Art Factory.
Tickets $35 + booking fee available from Moshtix. Presented by 2SER.
MELBOURNE: Thursday, April 8 at East Brunswick Club.

Tour news - Ned Collette + Wirewalker Melbourne Xmas Show tomorrow night
Here's your chance to see NC+W one last time in 2009, in the very intimate confines of the Old Bar. For all those that missed the recent show at the Northcote Social Club, or those that just want to go round again, with a stellar line up thrown in.
From Beat's review of the NSC show: "Ned's voice, as always, was strange and remarkable. It seemed to bend and reshape itself, sometimes channeling the cold whimsy of David Bowie, sometimes the arch romance of Morrissey and sometimes the warm, quintessentially Australian tones of Steve Kilbey from The Church. When he sang, he held the room."

Tour news - British Sea Power come to Australia in February
“British Sea Power's vision makes most independent rock seem callow and weak-minded.” Blender
“the pride of Britain's bookish, bird-watching bohemia” – Observer Music Monthly
“BSP isn’t a band you can dip into; instead dive in and sink to the bottom and let it all gloriously wash over you” - NME
Civil Society is very proud to announce the long-awaited debut Australian tour of the British Sea Power. From frozen Cumbria came brothers Yan Scott Wilkinson and Neil Hamilton Wilkinson who, along with school friend Matthew Wood, formed British Sea Power. A band whose live performances are so startling that they have defined their career from inception. Their first years were filled with riotous shows in remarkable surroundings including the sea on the Scilly Isles, underground in a Cornish slate mine and at the Chelsea Flower Show. This February British Sea power will finally bring their remarkable live performance to Australia for headline shows in Sydney and Melbourne as well as appearances as a part of the Perth International Arts Festival and the Playground Weekender.
When British Sea Power played the 2002 Reading Festival, Rolling Stone seemed to say the rest of the weekend’s entire bill paled before them: “Fuck this puerile drivel, we’re going to see British Sea Power… British Sea Power rule!”. Rough Trade founder Geoff Travis came to see BSP and signed them on the spot. The band’s debut album, The Decline Of British Sea Power, was released in 2003 with NME declaring it to be “Out of this world…a dazzling debut.” Their second album, 2005’s Open Season, gained even greater praise with Rolling Stone this time saying “The first few songs are so jaw-slackeningly great it can take days to get to the album’s highlight, the epic eight-minute medley of Please Stand Up and North Hanging Rock.”
British Sea Power’s music clashes good against evil; rock music against non-rock music with lyrics that tackle astounding subject matter from floods on Canvey Island, to economic migration, to Slavia Prague FC, to the Apocalypse and to a wrestler born Shirley Crabtree and known as Big Daddy.
British Sea Power are like a musical Doctor Jekyll and Mr Hyde, throwing caution and guitars to the wind, as they clash themes and sounds as varied as one another to create a glorious cacophony. See British Sea Power as they make their maiden voyage to our shores for the 2010 Australian Expedition.

Tour News: Gossip and Friendly Fires play in Adelaide
Handsome Tours, Good Vibrations, triple j and Rip It Up present GOSSIP With Special Guests Friendly Fires (UK) Adelaide Show - February 2010
“The greatest punk rock ’n’ roll disco soul band on the planet. Gossip are mind-blowing. Everyone needs to hear this band and dance like there’s no tomorrow.” NME
Already heading to Aus to appear at the Good Vibrations Festival, genre-bending DIY post-punk trio The Gossip have just announced a headline show in Adelaide. Joining them will be very special guests Friendly Fires, who follow up an almighty sold out Australian tour that solidified their reputation as one of the best live acts around.
With the release of their highly anticipated album Music For Men earlier this year, the band continues on their upward trajectory with singles ‘Heavy Cross’, ‘Dimestore Diamond’ and ‘Love Long Distance’ all over your radio. Produced by Grammy Award winner Rick Rubin, the record brings a new level of lyrical power and musical sophistication to their ever-evolving, always-electrifying sound and sensibility.
The enormously popular Friendly Fires return off the back of a completely sold out Australian tour. Labelled everything from dance-punk, to the new nu-wave, electro-pop, melodic song, and disco dance, Friendly Fires have been called the leaders of the "intelligent disco revolution". Thanks to their stellar self titled debut, 2009 has seen the UK trio sell out countless shows and receive a swag of award nominations.

Having released their third album SUN GANGS to worldwide critical acclaim earlier this year, talk of an Australian tour has been highly anticipated.
Australian’s have had a long distance love affair with The Veils since the release of their debut album ‘The Runaway Found’ and then with the Triple J anthem ‘Advice For Young Mothers To Be’ from the ‘NuxVomica’ album. The last Australian tour saw the band sell out shows in Melbourne and Sydney.
The Veils are Finn Andrews, (vocals, guitar, piano, New Zealand) Sophia Burn, (bass, New Zealand) Dan Raishbrook (guitar, odd noise, England) and RaifeBurchell (drums, England).
Finn’s father Barry Andrews was a founding member of the highly influential group XTC in the late 1970s, later going on to tour with the likes of Robert Fripp & Brian Eno, Iggy Pop & David Bowie.
In ‘Sun Gangs’ The Veils have brought Finn’s early influences full circle, and created a record that truly lives up to the huge promise and talent that they have always exhibited. Their live shows continue to receive rave reviews throughout the world, with the LA Times recently posting
“... as far as their set last night went, it was probably the most moving, unsettling and unexpectedly haunting thing I've seen in rock music this year... terrifying in all the best ways."

Tour news: Pavement are back, and touring Australia!
The rumours are true, Pavement are indeed gracing our shores for an Australian tour.
Yes, Pavement are reforming. Yes their very first shows announced since 1999 will be in Australia. Yes one of those shows will be Saturday 6 March at Golden Plains festival in the Meredith Supernatural Amphitheatre, Victoria.
One of the most popular, important and influential bands in the history of modern music, Pavement disbanded in 1999 after releasing several masterwork albums, leaving a legacy as bona fide icons of what is now a massive scene. That legacy has expanded exponentially to reach gigantic cultural proportions, so the announcement of the reformation and shows has seen an explosion of modern joy from discerning music lovers all over the globe.

Tour news - Micachu and The Shapes announce debut Australian tour
"I saw her in London, in June, a year ago and I was really excited about her. I thought it was that sort of 'do it yourself' approach, with all these little guitars and her attitude was really fresh… think it's really, really fun. (She) is a bit of a prankster really, isn't she?" - Bjork
Micachu and The Shapes have announced their debut Australian tour.
In 2008, a 21 year old released two limited edition 7" singles and scored an instrumental piece for the London Philharmonic Orchestra. The piece was performed at the Royal Festival Hall and played at the BBC Electric Proms to range of guests including Oasis, Goldfrapp and Burt Bacharach(!). The 21 year old was Mica Levi AKA Micachu.
Micachu with backing from The Shapes (Marc Pell - Drums, Raisa Khan - Keys & Electronics) are a treat to behold. Coming straight out of the East End of London, Micachu and The Shapes are one of the freshest acts to emerge on the indie/alternative scene in recent years.
Their rawkus sound is utterly infectious and has been pricking ears around the world. Absorbing electro-pop, wonky rhythms and edgey Brit Rock within stunning production is garnering them critical acclaim across the board.
Micachu’s debut album Jewellery, released earlier this year, has been described as "an extraordinary introduction to a unique new talent". Little wonder then that Micachu has already won a fan in experimental-pop pioneer Bjork.
This new band of 21 year olds are about to have a major impact.

Magic Dirt announce shows as tribute to Dean Turner
Magic Dirt are set to play a run of shows as a tribute to Dean Turner.
Dean founded Magic Dirt in 1992 and played bass in the band until he passed away on August 21 this year. Dean and Magic Dirt had planned a tour in August; however Dean’s deteriorating condition led to its cancellation.
The October/November tour is the band’s loving tribute to their dear friend. It offers Magic Dirt and their fans an opportunity to give Dean the rousing and rowdy send-off he so richly deserves.
OCTOBER
Thu 15 Oct - Adelaide, The Governor Hindmarsh Fri 16 Oct - Casterton, Casterton Town Hall Sat 17 Oct - Warrnambool, The Loft Sat 24 Oct - Ballarat, Karova Lounge Wed 28 Oct - Melbourne, Corner Hotel Fri 30 Oct - Geelong, National Hotel
NOVEMBER
Thu 5 Nov - Manly, Manly Fishos Fri 6 Nov - Sydney, Annandale Hotel Sat 7 Nov - Orange, Freshly Plucked Festival
Adalita, Raul and Adam from the band said when announcing the tour, "Dean loved playing live. He liked to play loud and hard and give it all he had - 110% all the way. We are so proud of Dean’s legacy and the gifts he has left with us: his perseverance, passion and commitment to the music, his endearing boyish fun, his invigorating and uplifting attitude on that long hard road and his pure punk rock spirit on stage, behind the scenes and around us at all times."
Matt Sonic from Sons of the Sun and Matt Sonic & the High Times will play bass with the band on the tour. Matt is a close friend of the band, (Dean produced the first Sons of the Sun record) and previously deputised when Dean was unable to play shows.
Ned Collette + Wirewalker reveal details of album #3, tour dates and new mp3.
The creation of an album is a time of alchemy, as the sounds in an artist’s head take on tangible form. It’s a time of enchantment and good fortune, when thoughts become deeds, which in turn become captured moments and future memories.
However, from another perspective, the creation is only the start of the process. The music takes on a life of its own, beating its own path and forging its own identity out in the world. The musician’s life becomes defined and determined by the course the music takes.
This has been the case for Ned Collette. In the two years since the release of his sophomore work, Future Suture, his music has led him around the globe, in and out of late night bars and dark venues, sometimes accompanied by his extraordinary band, sometimes alone – always with his solitary vision.
The new creation is Over The Stones, Under The Stars, an album purposefully stripped of theorchestration that marked previous releases, conveying more of the fiery live experience of this unique band, forged from the last two years of performing around the world. Ned also adds piano, organ and mellotron to his usual axe slinging.
The first single taken from the album is Come Clean
Early in 2010 Ned Collette + Wirewalker will relocate long-term to Europe, with a continental tour organized by their European agent commencing in May.
Over The Stones, Under The Stars is released October 23rd on Dot Dash.
And now Love Of Diagrams set about taking their album to the punters live.
The band will be launching their album around the country from next week in MELBOURNE Fri Sep 11 - Northcote Social Club [tickets on sale] SYDNEY Thu 17 Sep - The Annandale [tickets on sale] ADELAIDE Fri Oct 2 - The Jade Monkey with dates in BRISBANE, PERTH and HOBART to be announced shortly
