1998: mutant swinger from Mars landed and Jack White had a bowl cut!

Going around the blogs today is footage of Mutant Swinger From Mars - a scifi spoof filmed in 1998, but screening for the first time at the San Diego Comic Con next month.

Making a cameo in it is a young Jack White looking very different to how he does today. Wouldn't have picked it if someone didn't point it out to me!

More news on White Stripes film

Some more news on that White Stripes film we mentioned a while ago.

The film follows the White Stripes on their 2007 tour of Canada, as they set out to play every territory and province in the country. Not only concert halls in every nook and cranny of the country but spontaneous performances on a fishing boat, youth shelter, city bus and their famed one note concert - many of course captured by fans and uploaded onto Youtube:

The film apparently will be called The White Stripes: Under Great White Northern Lights and will screen at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.

More details over at Pitchfork here and here.

White Stripes News

Jack White's been doing a few interviews recently and what with all this talk of his numerous side projects, it's good of Jack to put us at ease and let us know that though The White Stripes have been taking a break, another WS album is not too far away: "It won't be too far off. Maybe next year."

In his recent Music Radar interview, Jack also talks of the cancellation of their last White Stripes tour due to Meg's acute anxiety, which he says "was a very real problem, but one that I'm happy to say is in the past."

The full interview with Music Radar is here.

White Stripes News - White Stripes film?

Jack White sure as a hella busy year ahead of him.

Following the announcement of Jack's new band Dead Weather, self-titled mag published this interview with Jack White and Allison Mosshart.

As Pitchfork has gleaned, Jack's To Do list for 2009 includes a film, production on 4-5 albums, a photo/ song series at the Third Man Records HQ, touring and album release from Dead Weather and 'other pretty big stuff' for Third Man Records. See more on Pitchfork here.

And what is this about a White Stripes film? Well has Jack told Self-Titled Mag:
"Then also, Third Man Films. The White Stripes are releasing a film this year, and when I go back home in a few days, I’m going to mix all the music for that, which is like 40 songs, so that’s going to take a lot of time."
