New video - Gil Scott-Heron doco on Pitchfork TV this week only



Catch it while you can! PitchforkTV have a 11 minute doco about Gil Scott-Heron's first album in 13 years - I'm New Here.

It features interviews with the man himself, Richard Russell (producer & head of XL Recordings) and others involved in the project, fascinating footage of them recording in the studio and Gil sharing his stories.

UK dates were recently announced for a Gil Scott-Heron tour in April. Fingers crossed someone brings him to our side of the equator soon!

After a lengthy hiatus the legendary Gil Scott-Heron returns in the new decade with a new album entitled I'm New Here

Without doubt one of the most important voices in 20th century music, in 1971 Gil Scott-Heron laid out the blueprint for the whole rap genre with his slinky, bad-as-fuck anthem “The Revolution Would Not Be Televised”. He is cited as an influence on countless hip hop vocalists and producers.

If you aren't familiar with the influential poet/musician, now is the time to educate yourself. Here's a good place to start:





Uncompromising and upfront, his politically driven work has influenced countless musicians and inspired a movement of intelligent rappers.
