Department Of Eagles video - No One Does It Like You
Department Of Eagles have just released a video for their song 'No One Does It Like You'.
The clip was directed by Patrick Daughters (who has previous done videos for Feist, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Beck, Interpol, The Shins and Depeche Mode) and New York based artist Marcel Dzarma.
Dzarma also designed the sets and costumes in this beautiful though slightly disquieting, surrealist dream of a clip.
The clip had its debut screening at the Museum of Modern Art in New York this week.
4AD have released a new download sampler giving listeners a taste of their best releases of 2008. The tracks featured range from 4AD favourites such as The Breeders and Mountain Goats right through to the labels newer artists such as Anni Rossi and It Hugs Back.

New releases from Department of Eagles, Brightblack Morning Light and Tom Cooney
This weekend saw the release of yet another trio of albums from an eclectic mix of artists: there’s a Brisbane troubadour, a couple of hippies and a duo from Brooklyn.
Presque Vu (meaning “almost seen”) is the debut album from Tom Cooney, sonically pivoting on Tom’s guitar, lyrics and melodies. Many friends added the spokes to roll Presque Vu along including Whitley, and members from Subaudible Hum, Boat People and McKisko. Having previously performed with Fionn Regan and M. Ward, as well as playing at Splendour in the Grass and Homebake, Tom will be launching the new album along the East Coast over the next two weeks, starting in Sydney this Wednesday.

Their hair is long. Their music warm and hazy. They are Brightblack Morning Light. Haunting, beautiful and weird in equal doses, their new album Motion To Rejoin is the perfect Saturday night and Sunday morning album. Recorded entirely under solar power in a remote adobe cabin in the New Mexican mesa, the album recalls musicians as diverse as Bob Dylan, My Bloody Valentine, Neil Young and Otis Reading.
Department of Eagles are Daniel Rossen of Grizzly Bear alongside his friend Fred Nicolaus, plus additional help from two other members of Grizzly Bear, Christopher Bear and Chris Taylor. In Ear Park is a delight; both colourful and expansive, built upon an intimate and personal framework of songs and is a definite highlight of 2008. Full of joyful moments, lush production and concise songwriting, In Ear Park is an album that stays with the listener and only encourages repeat visits.
Pt 2 of Pitchfork.tv's Don't Look Down series featuring Department of Eagles is now up. The latest chapter features track No One Does It Like You off the album In Ear Park:
Also in Pt 2 is DoE's performance of non album track 1997, which you can watch here. Pt 1 sees the band playing versions of the album title track and Around The Bay.
In Ear Park, out this Saturday, has just been given an 8.3 rating on Pitchfork and is described as "a sprawling pop record (complete with guitars, piano, horns, banjo, and more) that evokes Sgt. Pepper's, Sung Tongs, Van Dyke Parks, and Gene Clark. Ambitious and complex, it's stuffed with cocooning harmonies and shimmering, sunlight-smacking-the-Pacific melodies."
Department of Eagles currently feature on Pitchfork.tv's Don't Look Down series that has previously seen performances by Bill Callahan, The Futureheads and Yeasayer.
Part 1 sees DoE duo Fred Nicolaus and Daniel Rossen performing their unique style of nostalgic, guitar driven pop on a Manhattan rooftop. Joining them live are Rossen's Grizzly Bear counterparts Chris Taylor and Christopher Bear.
Below is their performance of the title track of their new album In Ear Park, out this Saturday.

Department of Eagles' new album In Ear Park is out October 4th.
DoE features Daniel Rossen of Grizzly Bear and his friend Fred Nicolaus, plus additional help from two other members of Grizzly Bear, Chris Taylor and Chris Bear. In Ear Park is the culmination of roughly 4 years work and contains 11 tracks.
About how songs made it to this record, as opposed to a Grizzly Bear one, Daniel says: "In Ear Park has been in the making in one form or another for several years now, on and off tour and after work. A lot of these songs felt way too personal to bring to Grizzly Bear - there's a lot of childhood nostalgia and an emphasis on more concise songwriting. Fred and I had license to try some things that I could never get away with otherwise, but we still went for the lushness and and attention to sonic detail that Chris and I always want out of a recording. I'm excited."
They recently performed the title track of the album, which was filmed and edited by Eamonn Farrell and Bajir Cannon. You can watch it below:

Their sophomore album In Ear Parkfollows on from their 2003 debut The Cold Nose, which brought them a small but enthusiastic audience and critical praise. The new album featurs 11 tracks that weave between nostalgia and mortality, and joyful moments with lush production and concise songwriting.
